Image flight and processing of aerial image data

All a question of perspective

Phoenics uses the latest digital camera technology for picture flights. In order to be able to map the terrain structure one to one, vertical shots in different resolutions and overlaps are used.

The aerial photo data flow into a powerful image processing software. This is where the processing takes place in order to prepare the data for orthophotos (True or Classic) and then use them, for example, for the realisation of a specialist cadastre or our CitiGenius engine.


No GIS without georeferenced aerial photographs.
Phoenics has been a specialist for orthophotos for over 25 years. They are used in a resolution up to 3 cm and thus in highest perfection and detail fidelity for municipal and industrial purposes.
The aerial photos are processed according to different procedures. The classic orthophoto is produced with tilted buildings and only a small overlap is required (60% lengthwise and 30% crosswise to the flight direction).
Together with our strategic partner nframes GmbH we produce tilt-free orthophotos in highest quality and resolution. For such almost perfect orthophotos and 3D representations, an overlap of 80% lengthwise and 60% crosswise is required. All buildings as well as the objects of the earth’s surface are depicted true to position and thus correspond to a map-like image. The textured 3D mesh is used for three-dimensional visualization of the earth’s surface and can also be produced at any time together with the True Orthophoto. The 3D mesh offers you the perfect view of the 3D model with or without texture, with shading, triangular mesh, point cloud or combinations. The best texturing can be achieved by the additional use of oblique images. Many 3D GIS systems can already read in such data directly and process it together with vector data.

From basic products such as digital terrain models and orthophotos to detailed specialist cadastres, Phoenics offers the complete range of photogrammetric aerial image analysis.

Wherever orthophotos do not offer sufficient quality, such as with tree cadastres, building photographs or green space cadastres, we professionally evaluate stereoscopically from the photogrammetric raw data.

Height Modelling

Large-area digital surface and earth surface models are generated by matching methods. With Pix4D models with a resolution up to 1cm can be created. Based on these models, objects are extracted and the surface model is derived without vegetation and artificial objects. The basis can be a conventional photo flight or a drone flight.

Together with our partners we also offer laser scanning flights including classification and editing of point clouds.


The larger and more comprehensive a project is, the more complex are the processes of the geodata to be created. Phoenics has the international experience and expertise in photogrammetry, GIS, quality assurance and project management to support major projects worldwide. The specialists work hand in hand. Thus friction losses are excluded.

Evaluation of War Aerial Photos

The evaluation of allied war aerial photos serves the investigation of air bombs and contaminated sites of all kinds. A special challenge is not only the positional recording of suspected areas in the aerial photograph, but also the creation of an elevation model for the calculation of difference models to the current situation. In this way it is possible to calculate the depth at which the contaminated sites are located and the volumes to be removed.
